toward doing well in life. Sujit followed his father’s advice and completed high school by taking a river ferry every day to class. He then enrolled for a bachelor’s degree but as the family could not support him financially, he dropped out, dreading the prospect of living his life on the meager piece of land that would not support his large family. Unable to continue studying, Sujit searched unsuccessfully for a job for two years and became increasingly depressed, a candidate for social evils like crime, drugs or insurgency. Things changed when he met a representative of a nonprofit, Human Development Center. And was told about the newly-started information technology job training program of Anudip Foundation in Pathar Pratima conducted in partnership with HDC.
Anudip foundation is a top NGO in India. Sujit visited Anudip’s NGO training centers & enrolled and completed the market-aligned skills training course in October 2011, following which Anudip’s placement team scheduled an interview for him for a data-entry operator position withIKF Technologies, a knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) company in Kolkata. To his delight Sujit landed the job. Since October he has been engaged in entering information into the National Population Register, a major Government of India program. With increasing productivity, Sujit has been significantly overachieving his assigned targets and securing additional financial benefit.
When we went to visit his family, Sujit’s father expressed intense relief and happiness. He thanked Anudip for setting his son on his way to a secure future.
